year of the priest

Year for Priests

Pope Benedict XVI has designated June 19, 2009 through June 19, 2010 as the Year for Priests. This year-long celebration begins on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a day on which we pray for the sanctification of all priests. The Holy Father has likewise declared St. John Vianney the Universal Patron of All Priests on the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the saint's death. It is our prayer that we begin this Year for Priests with great joy and fervor in order to encourage vocations to the priesthood. Click to visit the USCCB's Year for Priests website.

Thinking about Priesthood?

The Seminary Vocation Office for the Diocese of Cleveland is currently in conversation with prospective seminary candidates for the 2009-2010 academic year. A number of these men are in the process of application to our college and graduate-level seminaries. We offer a number of programs for Catholic men (high school through age 42) to explore the possibility of diocesan priesthood, including our "Come & See" Weekends in February and April, Dinner with the Bishop, and other special events. For more information contact Father Michael K. Gurnick at 440-943-7660 or mgurnick@dioceseofcleveland.org.
